From a review by Berwin Song in That’s Beijing:
“The latest project from Hunan native and Beijing sound artist Zhang Anding (aka Zafka) is eye-catching thanks to some innovative packaging: i.Mirror comes on a limited edition vPod – in essence, a daoban [pirated] iPod shuffle – which makes a neat enough gift, and offers plenty of utility beyond Zafka’s artistic contribution. As for the content, its three tracks use sounds taken exclusively from the virtual online reality world of Second Life (SL) – a project that started with the intent to capture the ’sonic environments’ of SL residents, but instead discovered mostly just the built-in noises of the virtual environment: loops of whistling wind, bird and insect calls, all mimicked electronically for a digital world…”
But our CPUs are running as hot as ever. Two lovely, fine albums – AV007 and AV008 – are now in post-production, and another, AV009, is also in the works. We’ll keep the releases coming, fast, and hope to cover a variety of styles. AV is all about being open-ended. What you hear here now is no stylistic indication of what’s going to be in our future releases. At least we’d like to keep thinking that way.
You’re welcome to leave comments here for the artists; BTW, almost all of them are fluent in English. Big thanks to Sebastian Mendes of Seattle, for featuring AV releases on his recent radio show.

Notes:
1. All tracks made from a few syllables/words of Mandarin recitation (track 1, two syllables; track 2, five syllables), reading poems generated algorithmically. No singing, no other sound sources, samples, or electronic sound generation were used in the entire album.
2. No pitch-shifting was used in “Satisfaction of Oscillation.” All (pseudo-)melodic content is inherent in Mandarin speech. This composition is strictly Reichian, and not, as is often misunderstood, Lansky-an, in spirit.
3. The “Singles Edition” was selected from the out-of-print album “Dream Reverberations” (Juxiang, 1997).
4. “Satisfaction of Oscillation” also published by Sub Rosa in “An Anthology of Noise & Electronic Music vol. 5 - fifth a-chronology 1920-2007” (Sub Rosa, 2007) and by UbuWeb in “Contemporary Chinese Experimental Music” on UbuWeb Sound, curated by Lawrence Li (UbuWeb, 2007).
